Everest Base Camp Trek With Heli Return Alternate Routes

Everest base camp trek return back by helicopter is one of Nepal's most popular tourist attractions. It takes you on a scenic tour of the Everest region, providing stunning views of the Himalayas. You can take the tour in two ways: Firstly, fly to Lukla airport and then trek to Everest Base Camp or take a smooth Everest Base Camp tour with landing at Everest Base Camp. Both options have their pros and cons, so it’s worthwhile to weigh them before making a decision. Trekking to Everest Base Camp requires 10-11 days of walking and can be strenuous for those who are not physically fit. On the other hand, traveling by helicopter guarantees you'll reach your destination without any physical exertion.

Everest base camp trek and fly back by helicopter also provide amazing views while in flight; however, this mode is more expensive than Everest Base Camp Trek-Multiland. If money isn't an issue for you or if time is precious (say if this is your only opportunity), then going with the more expensive option might be worth it. Still, if the Everest base camp trek cost from Kathmandu is your concern or if you're looking for something more authentic, then we recommend that you go with the 10-12 day Everest Base Camp Budget Trekking.

Whichever Everest base camp trek return back by helicopter you choose, you will surely have an unforgettable experience. there are a few alternative routes that offer different perspectives of the world’s tallest mountain. The Everest Base Camp Trek packages include the Luxury Everest Base Camp Trek and Everest Base Camp 10 days or EBC Trek. From here, you can get some of the best views of Mt. Everest and experience the high altitude. Another great option is the Everest Base Camp with Gokyo Lakes Trek which takes you to the Gokyo Lakes – a series of six glacial lakes located in the Nepalese Himalayas and over Cho La pass – The pass that offers stunning views of the Himalayan peaks.

Itinerary Expand All Close All

On day one of your Everest Base Camp Trek, you'll arrive in Kathmandu and be met by our team. We'll help you get settled into your hotel, and then we'll head out for a group dinner. After dinner, we'll go over the itinerary for the next few days and answer any questions you have.

Welcome to Day 2 of your Everest Base Camp Trek! Today, you'll be flying to Lukla and then trekking to Phakding. The flight to Lukla is about 35 minutes, and from there it's about 2.3 kilometers to Phakding. The trek should take you 3-4 hours.

On day three of the Everest Base Camp Trek, you will be hiking from Phakding to Namche Bazaar. The trek will take approximately 6-7 hours and cover a distance of 10 kilometers. Along the way, you will pass through some stunning scenery, including forests, rivers, and mountains. Be sure to take plenty of breaks to enjoy the views and snap some photos!

On the fourth day of the Everest Base Camp Trek, you will acclimatize to the altitude by hiking around Namche Bazaar. The hike will take about 2 and a half hours near Hotel Everest View. Along the way, you will have beautiful views of the mountains and valleys below. You may even see some wildlife, such as mountain goats or yaks. By the end of the day, you should feel more comfortable with the altitude and be ready for the next leg of your journey.

Namche Bazaar to Tengboche is a short but strenuous hike. The first half is relatively easy, after a 1-hour easy walk you will walk a downhill trail for about 1 hour and you will reach a lunch place. After lunch, we start a steep uphill climb of about 2-3 hours. You'll be rewarded with amazing views of Everest and the surrounding mountains, as well as the beautiful Tengboche Monastery. Allow 5-6 hours for this hike.

On day 6 of the Everest Base Camp Trek, you will hike from Tengboche to Dingboche. The trek will take approximately 5-6 hours and cover a distance of 11 kilometers. The trail today is relatively easy, with only a few short uphill sections. You will be rewarded with stunning views of the mountains, valleys, and forests along the way. After arriving in Dingboche, you can explore the village or relax in your accommodations.

After a good night's sleep, you'll wake up feeling refreshed and ready to tackle the next phase of your trek. Day 7 is an acclimatization day, which means you'll be spending time hiking around Dingboche to help your body adjust to a higher altitude. The hike will take around 2 hours, and you'll have plenty of time to explore your surroundings and take in the stunning views. After a day of exploring, you'll return to your lodging for a well-deserved rest.

On day 8 - you'll be trekking from Dingboche to Lobuche, a distance of 8.4km. The scenery today is simply breathtaking, as you'll be following the Imja Khola valley up to the Khumbu Glacier. You may even spot a snowbird (Tibetan snow cock) along the way! Be sure to take plenty of breaks, and drink lots of water to stay hydrated. You'll also want to eat a light lunch, as you'll need all your energy for the second half of the trek. By late afternoon, you will reach Lobuche, where you can relax and enjoy the views before dinner.

On day 9 of the Everest Base Camp Trek, you will trek from Lobuche to Everest Base Camp (5,364m-17,598ft) via Gorekshep (5,100m-16732ft). The total distance covered on this day will be approximately 16 km. This is a challenging day as you will be gaining over 464 m in elevation. You will have an early breakfast at your lodge in Lobuche and then begin your trek. The first part of the trail takes you through the moraine of the Khumbu Glacier. This is a rocky and uneven section so be sure to watch your step. After about 2-3 hours of hiking, you will reach Gorekshep. There are five tea houses that offer hot water for tea or coffee and lunch. After stopping for a short break, you will continue on the trail towards Everest Base Camp. You will stay overnight at Gorekshep at 5,100m-16732ft, it is the highest point for sleeping during this trek.

Early in the morning, you'll hike up to Kala Patthar to watch the sunrise, then back down to Gorekshep for breakfast. After that, you'll take a helicopter back to Lukla where you'll spend the night.

After an amazing 11 days of trekking to Everest Base Camp, it's time to return back to Kathmandu. The trek is over, but the memories and lifelong friends will live on forever. On your way back to Kathmandu you'll have a chance to see some interesting sights including world's heritage sites Pasupatinath Temple, Baudhanath, Swayambhu, Patan Durbar Square, Kathmandu Durbar Square, and Bhaktapur Durbar Square. The flight from Lukla airport may be intimidating at first glance but once you get through security and on board the plane you'll be amazed at how fast and easy this flight is.

Travel Insurance

For everyone who will plan to Trek in Nepal, it is highly recommended that you get travel insurance that covers added expenses that might result due to various health issues, injuries, or accidents (together with the ambulance, helicopter rescue, and other treatment costs). Your insurance policy should cover the entire activities that you are planning to accomplish throughout your stay in Nepal.

In addition to this, the policy should also cover death, misplaced luggage, theft and liability, cancellations, medical treatment (counting hospital charges, cost of the medicine, doctor’s fees) as well as repatriation costs. Also, this trekking trail in Nepal takes you 5,000 m above the altitude, therefore, you also need to ensure that your insurance policy covers treks that go over 5,000 m.

We suggested that you buy your insurance policy from your home country before joining us, as it is difficult buying a local travel insurance policy for foreigners in Nepal.

Meals And Accommodation

While you’re in Kathmandu, your accommodation is at a 4 Ster hotel (Arrival time and departure time). Your accommodation is at the best local Lodge and Guest Houses where available. The Mountain local Lodges are clean and have comfortable beds. The Lodges are fairly basic and the room is spare with twin beds. Blankets are generally provided. There is a large dining hall and warm fitted with a chimney duct, in which a log fire is lit.

Eating is a big part of the Holiday. Traveling with Northern Trekking Team, you experience a vast array of wonderful Nepalese food, Italian, Thai, Chinese, and several local foods. While on the trek you will be on full board all 3 times meals (Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner, with Tea/Coffee) included in the package. Your guide will suggest delicious, hygienic special food during your trips. Generally, chosen menu items are Nepalese meals (Dal Bhat), Tibetan fried bread, various types of soups, Momo’s (steamed dumplings), boiled and fried potatoes, kinds of pasta, and even pizza. So, overall you have a different choice of foods on the trek. During this trek, you will usually have breakfast and dinner at the same guest house.

Booking Payment

You should book the service at least 15 days before the trek departure date. After you confirm your trip with us, you should be transferring us a photocopy of your passport or your personal information. The personal information you have to provide us is your first name, middle name, last name, passport number, date of birth, nationality, and gender. Importantly, you need to pay 20% of the total price in advance for the domestic flight tickets and hotel booking, and permit process. You can pay the remaining balance before you start the trek.

Domestic Flight Information

Generally, the Everest region has to use Twin Otter and Dornier as primary modes of transport to and from the airstrip. Since you are trekking in the geographically as well as climate-wise most difficult part of the world, it is natural that flights get canceled. Mountain weather conditions or technical issues are something we cannot predict. In case of cancellation of flights, we can hire a helicopter for you to maintain your schedule. A helicopter facility can only be provided if our clients agree to pay the extra charges. Unwanted to say, the helicopter takes 4 to 6 passengers at a time and the cost can be shared amongst the passengers. We would like to repeat that in case the helicopter service is required, the trekkers must pay the cost. We can help you prepare the documents you need to submit to the travel insurance company for reimbursement. Please be informed that the Twin Otter and Dornier aircraft allow only 15kgs as the weight limit. This weight is equal to 33 Pounds. This weight includes both your duffel bag and daypack. This means you need to pack and prepare your luggage wisely. We suggest you not exceed the limit to avoid an additional cost of USD 2 to USD 5 per kg.

Personal Expenses

How much money or cash you should be bringing with you depends on how you do the trip and the number of days you want to spend here in Nepal. Much also depends on your spending habits. Generally, you must have to take10 to 15 USD to spend your expenses, such as laundry, telephone calls, snacks, camera, and mobile battery charging. How much you will be spending during your trekking depends on the standard of the package you have purchased.

A wonderful experience..

Mingmar is a friendly and professional guide who helped make our first visit to Nepal and the beautiful Himalaya's a truly wonderful and enjoyable experience. Not only did we feel completely safe with his knowledge and guidance, up at the high and exposed altitudes that we were trekking. But he also went the extra mile behind the scenes to ensure all the other aspects of our trip, including the accommodation and meals etc were all as good as they could possibly be as well.

I hope to return to Nepal some day and look forward to joining Mingmar and the Norther trekking team again..

Trekking to Mount Everest Base Camp

I went trekking with two friends to Mount Everest Base Camp with Mingmar as our guide. It was an amazing trip, and Mingmar was the best guide we could hope for. As people from Denmark we were not used to heights and we of course experienced altitude sickness. However, Mingmar checked up on us a lot, and helped with everything and made sure we were safe all the time. He has a lot of experience and we felt safe and in good hands the whole time. Besides, we had some good conversations and got to know a lot that we would not otherwise have known if we did not have a guided.
The route is amazing with such beautiful nature. I would surely recommend it to anyone who likes trekking and likes being in nature.
