Plan and Prepare for Everest Base Camp Trekking

If you're looking for a Nepal trekking adventure, but don't have a lot of time to plan and prepare, the short Everest Base Camp trekking is the perfect choice for you. Many people who come to Kathmandu on holiday want to see some of the country's most popular tourist attractions, but they are often only here for a few days or weeks at most. The challenge with this type of trip is that it takes so much more time than that to get your visas and other preparations in order. This popular route can be completed in as little as 10 days, making it quick and easy to plan and prepare for. Starting at Lukla airport in northern Nepal, the first day is spent ascending through the green forest and Dudh Koshi river before reaching Namche Bazaar, which serves as a launch pad for some of the most iconic treks around Mount Everest and other Himalayan peaks. From here, travellers continue their journey on foot towards Tengboche Monastery, Dingboche, Lobuche, Gorekshep, Everest Base Camp, and Kala Patthar where they are rewarded with panoramic views of Mt. Everest, Nuptse, Pumori, Ama Dablam among others. The final four days are spent retracing your steps back down to Kathmandu.

Short Everest Base Camp Trek Best Time

The best time for Short Everest Base Camp Trek is from mid-March to early May, or from late September to early November. These are the times when the weather is most stable, and you'll have the best chance of getting clear views of Everest. Plus, you'll avoid the crowds that flock to Everest during high season.

October is a great month to trek short Everest base camp, as it's relatively warm in October (temperatures average around 10 degrees Celsius) and you'll have an easier time crossing snowfields on your way up the mountain.

Mid-November is also a good choice because you're less likely to run into heavy rain or snowstorms at this time of year. It will still be cold, but not as bad as winter. Keep in mind that winter conditions may make the trail impassable so don't take any risks if there's even a slight chance of bad weather!

Finally, it's worth noting that Khumbu Valley or Everest Region isn't quite like other regions in Nepal: Khumbu Valley is higher than much of the country (around 18,208 feet), so altitude sickness could be a concern for some people. If you plan to do the hike, get yourself plenty of rest before your trip and drink lots of water once you arrive at base camp.
