The Mardi Himal Trek is one of the most beautiful and less-explored trekking routes in the Annapurna Region of Nepal. This short yet rewarding trek has gained popularity among trekkers seeking a peaceful alternative to crowded trails such as the Annapurna Circuit Trek and Annapurna Base Camp Trek.
Despite being less traveled, the Mardi Himal Trek offers outstanding mountain views, including Mardi Himal (5,587m), Annapurna I (8,091m), Annapurna South (7,219m), Machhapuchhre (6,997m), and Gangapurna Himal (7,454m)—making it one of the best value treks in Nepal.
At Northern Trekking Team, we focus on authentic trekking experiences and newly opened routes. Along with Mardi Himal Trekking, we have also introduced the Annapurna North Base Camp Trek for trekkers who want to explore remote and challenging parts of the Annapurna region.
The Mardi Himal Trek route passes through dense rhododendron forests, bamboo groves, and alpine landscapes. As you ascend, the scenery gradually changes into dramatic high-altitude terrain with close-up views of Machhapuchhre (Fishtail Mountain).
This trek is ideal for avoiding crowds while enjoying wildlife encounters such as Himalayan Thar, langurs, and bird species like Danphe (Himalayan Monal) and Kalij.
The Mardi Himal Trek is one of the quickest treks in Nepal to reach above 4,000 meters, yet it remains comfortable due to well-developed teahouses offering meals, accommodation, hot showers, Wi-Fi, and charging facilities.
The journey begins in Kathmandu, followed by a scenic drive or flight to Pokhara.

A short yet rewarding Himalayan trekking experience
The Mardi Himal Trek is ideal for a wide range of trekkers, from beginners to nature lovers seeking a peaceful Himalayan adventure. This short and scenic trek in the Annapurna Region of Nepal offers moderate difficulty, breathtaking landscapes, and less-crowded trails, making it suitable for many types of travelers.
The Mardi Himal Trek is considered a moderate-level trek, making it an excellent choice for beginners with little or no previous trekking experience. Compared to challenging routes like the Everest Base Camp Trek or Annapurna Circuit Trek, this trek is shorter and more manageable while still offering stunning Himalayan views.
If you enjoy being surrounded by nature, the Mardi Himal Trek is perfect for you. The trail passes through lush rhododendron forests, terraced farmlands, alpine meadows, and diverse ecosystems. Along the way, trekkers can enjoy close-up views of the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri mountain ranges.
Unlike many popular trekking routes in Nepal, the Mardi Himal Trek remains less crowded, especially during the off-season. This makes it an ideal option for trekkers who prefer quiet trails, peaceful surroundings, and a more personal connection with nature.
Although the Mardi Himal Trek is not extremely demanding, it does require a reasonable level of physical fitness. Trekkers typically walk for several hours each day on uphill and downhill terrain. Regular walking, light cardio exercise, and basic fitness preparation will significantly enhance your trekking experience.
The Mardi Himal Trek is a paradise for photographers. From panoramic snow-capped mountain views to stunning sunrise and sunset scenes, colorful forests, and unique wildlife, the trail offers countless opportunities for capturing unforgettable Himalayan moments.
The Mardi Himal Trek cost ranges from USD 495 to USD 695 per person, depending on group size and services included.
Contact Northern Trekking Team for customized itineraries, group discounts, and detailed cost information.
One of the members of the Northern Trekking Team will receive you at Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) in Kathmandu, upon your arrival. He will receive you warmly and transfer you to the hotel.
If time permits, you will get ample time to roam around Thamel—a prominent tourists hub of the country.
We will introduce you to a trekking guide who will accompany you while on your Mardi Himal Base Camp Trek that will begin shortly.
Following Prithvi Highway and witnessing the scenic beauty of the countryside of Nepal, we proceed toward Pokhara 822m-2696ft—The City of Lakes. The ride of six-hour will reveal the beauty of Trishuli and Marshyangdi River.
The towering mountain before entering Pokhara will capture your heart.
Today, you will get time to roam around the lakeside and can experience boating in the majestic lake of Phewa. Awesome experience.
After breakfast, we head toward Kande 1,770m-5807ft—the starting point of our much-awaited trek. It is a ride of an hour.
From here begins our hike! Australian Camp 2,055m-6742ft is our first on-the-way stopover to Deurali 3,200m-10498ft. This beautiful village will unfold the beauty of Annapurna 8,091m-26545ft, Dhaulagiri 8,167m-26794ft, and Manaslu ranges.
Further three hours of walk from Australian Camp will bring us to Pothana from where Deurali is not that far away.
It is really a pleasant walk as you will be walking through woods dotted red because of blossoming rhododendrons in Spring. You will get a marvelous view of Machhapuchhre 6,993m-22942ft (Fishtail) Himal (Mountain).
Passing the picturesque village of Landruk, we walk further to get to Forest Camp 2,550m-8366ft.
Huh! Uphill climb, life is fine! These are some of the statements delivered by a guide while on the trek and you are also likely to listen to them at some point during the trek.
Walking amid bamboo, rhododendron, and oak tree, we will head toward Badal Danda 3,210m-11,528ft. We arrive at Low Camp 2,990m-9809ft. It is such a silent and peaceful site where you would like to spend a couple of hours just witnessing the scenic beauty and landscape of this naturally blessed area. Badal Danda is in close proximity from here.
Did you hear what your guide said? Uphill climb, life is fine!
Yeah, like today is full of an uphill climb but is rewarding as well because you will get an astounding view of a couple of snow-capped peaks. A walk of nearly three hours from Badal Danda will lead you to High Camp.
It is a pleasant day of your hike as the site will enfold you with the mesmerizing beauty of this destination.
The vistas observed from Upper View Point are:
After enjoying the spectacular views of renowned peaks of the world from Upper View Point, we retrace the path to High Camp where we will spend the night.
Congratulations! Why? We will be following the downhill trail from today onward. Must be released, right?
We pass through Badal Danda and cross a few streams before entering the village of Siding. It will take you roughly seven hours to get into Siding village.
Walk to Lumre from Siding village is interesting and Mardi Khola downstream will add colors to your trail. It is just a trail of around three hours.
From Lumiere, we hire a jeep to Pokhara. It is a drive of nearly two hours.
We will catch a tourist bus to Kathmandu early in the morning and following the same highway—Prithvi Highway—we arrive in Kathmandu.
You will get a couple of hours to stroll around the street of Thamel.
In the evening, we will offer you dinner and would like to listen to your experience regarding Mardi Himal Base Camp Trek.

The Mardi Himal Trek takes 10 days, including arrival in Kathmandu, trekking days, and return travel from Pokhara to Kathmandu. The trekking portion usually starts on Day 3 and ends on Day 9.
The highest point of the trek is Mardi Himal Base Camp at 4,500 meters (14,760 ft), reached on Day 7. Proper acclimatization and a gradual ascent help minimize altitude-related issues.
Yes, the Mardi Himal Trek is beginner-friendly. Although it reaches a high altitude, the trail is well-maintained and the daily walking hours are manageable. Basic fitness and preparation are recommended.
The trek is considered moderate in difficulty. Trekkers walk 4–7 hours per day through forest trails, ridges, and mountain paths. No technical climbing experience is required.
The trek officially starts from Kande, which is reached by a short drive from Pokhara on Day 3. The trek ends at Lumre or Siding Village, followed by a drive back to Pokhara.
Accommodation during the Mardi Himal Trek is in local teahouses and lodges. These offer basic but comfortable rooms, meals, hot showers (in some places), Wi-Fi, and charging facilities.
The best seasons for the Mardi Himal Trek are:
Spring (March–May) – Rhododendron forests and clear mountain views
Autumn (September–february) – Stable weather and excellent visibility
Winter trekking is possible but colder, especially at High Camp.
Trekkers can enjoy stunning views of Machhapuchhre (Fishtail), Annapurna South, Annapurna I, Hiunchuli, Gangapurna, and Dhaulagiri throughout the trek.
Daily trekking hours range from 3 to 7 hours, depending on the itinerary day:
Shorter days: Low Camp to High Camp (2–3 hours)
Longer days: High Camp to Mardi Himal Base Camp and Siding Village (6–7 hours)
Altitude sickness is possible since the trek reaches 4,500 meters, but it is manageable with proper pacing, hydration, and rest. Trekking with an experienced guide from Northern Trekking Team greatly reduces risks.
Yes, hiring a licensed trekking guide is highly recommended and often required. A guide ensures safety, proper acclimatization, route navigation, and a richer cultural experience.
You will need:
Annapurna Conservation Area Permit (ACAP)
TIMS Card
Northern Trekking Team arranges all required permits for you.
Travel from Kathmandu to Pokhara can be done by tourist bus, private vehicle, or domestic flight.
By tourist bus or private car, the journey takes approximately 5–6 hours, depending on road conditions.
By domestic flight, the trip takes about 20–25 minutes, offering scenic views of the Himalayan range.

Mingmar, the managing director of the Northern Trekking Team, was my guide for Mardi Himal Base Camp Trek in 2020. They were very experienced, friendly and attentive. Consider yourself lucky if you get Mingmar. If you trek with Mingmar you fell like a family trip. He organized unforgettable trekking through Mardi Himal Base Camp. He resolved all the doubts that we had before going to Nepal and provided really useful information about what to expect during the trek: weather, food, accommodation, peaks.
In fact, their price was significantly cheaper than some of their competitors and initially, I was concerned that this might mean we were in for inferior accommodation or meals. However, once we were on the trek we realized that the accommodation is uniformly basic, regardless of which trekking company you sign up with. It appears you pay a premium for booking through a European or US-based agency which simply adds an (expensive) layer of administration or management fees but who all use local operators on the trek anyway. So by booking direct, you can both save yourself some money and also ensure 100% of your funds remain in this beautiful but impoverished country where they will be of the most benefit.
Seriously, who book through more expensive companies that were staying in the same teahouse. I did the same service I had. There is no need to spend more money or consider any other company. I truly feel like I made a long-lasting friend in Nepal, which made our trek even more special. I highly recommend Northern Trekking Team, Mingmar, and his team.

Out of all hikes and treks we've done this was by far the best. Not just because of the views but because of our guide, Mingmar. He had a lot of knowledge to share about the culture and mountains, added with a personal touch. Very accommodating! Read More

When I first met Gopal Tamang, I thought will this small boy look after me? I was mistaken...he's so capable and confident and caring too. I trekked to Mardi Himal and Annapurna Circuit trek as well..I felt safe and was taken good care by Gopal Tamang. This October my husband and his friends too are trekking with him. I would strongly suggest this Trekking company, Mingmar and Gopal Tamang...always grateful 🙏
