Ghorepani Poonhill Trek

Ghorepani Poonhill Trek, located north of Pokhara, offers some of the most dramatic close-up views of the highest and most beautiful mountains of the world. The short and the easy trail of Ghorepani Poonhill can be easily enjoyed by all type of trekkers without any Acute Mountain Sickness. It is an ideal trek for the one looking to explore the beauty of the Annapurna region at a short period of time. This trek is also known as the Annapurna Sunrise Trekking or the Annapurna Panorama Trekking which is one of the most popular and relatively easy treks that roams through the beautiful ethnic villages of Annapurna region. This area is the home to Magars and Gurungs, forming the backbone of the famous Gorkha regiments. The trek passes through deep rhododendron and mixed forests along with ferns and birds and also through the spectacular villages of the Gurkha soldiers. The spectacular Himalayan backdrops lead to Ghorepani (2834m) which is a beautiful and mesmerizing place. This trek is also famous for the morning visit at Poonhill which is situated at 3210m which is a great place to view the Dhaulagiri mountain and the Annapurna ranges. The trek makes a tour and visits Tadapani, Ghandrung, Nayapul lastly closes at Pokhara.

And then we head to the deep gorge and then to small mountains and streams and finally through the charming Sherpa villages.

The Poonhill trek is famous for the magnificent sunrise and sunset views including the sightseeing of the Himalayan peak of Annapurna Sanctuary, including Gangapurna, South Annapurna, Annapurna I, Dhaulagiri and Hiunchul. We repeat our way back to the Modi River and then to Nayapul to conclude our mesmerizing journey.

Day 01: Arrival in Kathmandu (1,350 m)

Northern Trekking Team extends a warm welcome to you in this city of temples—Kathmandu. One of our team members will receive you at Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) and escorts you to the hotel.

On this day, we will introduce you with a guide who will lead you to Annapurna Base Camp (ABC). He will assure you with all the requirements and brief you about your adventure that will begin soon. If time permits, we suggest you roam around the streets of Thamel and enjoy this beautiful touristic center of the country, Nepal.

Day 02: Drive to Pokhara (900 m)

We will be heading toward the city of lakes—Pokhara—today by bus. It is roughly a drive of six hours. Trishuli and Marshyangdi river are major attractions of this ride followed by towering mountains while entering in Pokhara.

Pokhara is one of the most liked touristic cities of Nepal. Machhapuchhre (Fishtail) mountain and Fewa lakes are the main attractions of this naturally blessed city. You can enjoy the city on your own. Boating and evening walk on lakeside are must do things here.

Day 03: Drive to Nayapul (1,010 m)/ Trek to Ghandruk (1,940m)

Hurray! Trek beings from today! It takes approximately one and half hour to reach Nayapul from Pokhara. We will hire a taxi to get here. Hike to Ghandruk is so pleasant as you will get an opportunity to get acquainted with local who mostly are Magar and Gurung, ethnic people of Nepal. They are popular for their valor and a large number of they join British or Indian Army.

Passing through Birethanti, Chimrung, Syauli Bazaar, Kimche and Chane—you arrive in Ghandruk. The key attractions of this place are Annapurna South, Hiunchuli and Machhapuchhre (Fishtail) mountains.

Day 04: Trek to Tadapani (2,600m)

It is an interesting walk of your life. Why? You will be climbing on stone stairs—nearly 3,000 steps. Isn’t it exciting? Oh yes, it is. Lush green vegetation will also make your walk pleasant and white-faced monkey spotted on the way will add colors to your hike. The site will unfold the beauty of Annapurna South, Hiunchuli, Annapurna II and Fishtail.

Day 05: Hike to Ghorepani

Following up and down the path and passing through rhododendron and pine forest will lead you to Ghorepani. The view of Annapurna South, Hiunchuli, Annapurna II and Fishtail are main attractions of today.

Day 06: Hike to Poon-Hill (3,210m)/Trek to Hile (1,540m)

Early to bed, early to rise. Makes a man healthy, wealthy and wise. But in this context, if you do not wake up at around 4 am, you will miss the essence of the entire trek. So, wake up early and proceed toward Poon-Hill—most popular vantage point of Annapurna region.

The morning view of sunrise kissing Dhaulagiri and Annapurna will melt your heart. Major attractions from this world-class vantage point are: Mt. Dhaulagiri (8167m.), Tukuche Peak (6920m.), Nilgiri (6940m.), Varaha Shikhar (7847 m.), Mt. Annapurna I (8091 m.), Annapurna South (7219 m.), Annapurna III (7855m.), Machhapuchhre (6993 m.), Annapurna IV (7525 m.), Annapurna II (7937 m.), Lamjung Himal (6931m.)

We retrace the path to Ghorepani and have breakfast. Now we head toward Hile following the downhill trail. We pass through Banthanti, Ulleri, and Tikhedhunga before arriving at Hile.

Day 07: Trek to Nayapul/Drive to Pokhara

It takes roughly three hours to get in Nayapul from Hile. We hire vehicle to Pokhara. In this city of lakes—Pokhara—you will get ample time to enjoy and relax. Do not forget to experience boating in Phewa lake!

Day 08: Drive to Kathmandu

Early in the morning, we will catch the tourist bus to get in Kathmandu. By 2 pm you will be in the capital where you can roam around. We will offer you a farewell dinner in the evening.

Day 09: Back to your Destination

Here ends your Ghorepani Poon-Hill Trek and with it, your Nepal stays as well. We will drop you in TIA three hours prior to scheduled flight. See you next season for another trip in the different destination as Nepal is a country with more than 100 trekking trails!
