Jumla Dolpa Trek is one of the most remote and isolated treks of our country is located in western Nepal. Dolpa, although it is the biggest district of our country is located in one of the most remote and isolated places of our country. One can get an opportunity to trek on the diverse and dramatic landscapes. We pass many dense rhododendron and oak forests which makes this trek more thrilling and adventurous. Although this area has lots of beautiful things to offer to its visitors only a few and a limited number of tourists visit this place.

 

This is the only place in our country where ancient Bon Po Buddhism is still in practice. In short, if you are planning to trek on some of the highest passes of our country with an opportunity to explore the untouched and ancient culture and lifestyle then the Jumla Dolpa Trek is the ideal option for you. You will also get an opportunity to do sightseeing of some of the famous mountain ranges of Nepal and Tibet which include Everest 8,849m-29032ft, Annapurna 8,091m-26545ft, Sishgampa, and other many beautiful mountain ranges. Sightseeing rare species of animals and birds is also another major attraction of this trek.

 

Jumla Dolpa Trek starts with a short flight to Nepalgunj and then another flight will take us to Jumla 2,514m-8248ft. Trekking via Jumla and Chatra will take us to Neulighat. Trekking via many Sherpa settlements and villages will take us to Kaigaon. Trekking via Kangmara Base camp and then passing the Kangmara La pass will take us to Phoksundo lake (The deepest lake in our country). We will then trek back to Jhupal and fly to Kathmandu which will be the ending point of our trek.

Welcome to the land of peace, Nepal.

Northern Trekking Team will receive you at Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) and transfer you to the hotel in Thamel.

It is a leisure day so you can just roam around Thamel and enjoy this key touristic hub of Kathmandu.

We will introduce you to a certified trek guide who will accompany you throughout your trek from tomorrow. He will assure about things to bring once again and this will ensure your peace of mind while on the trek.

We will catch the earliest flight to Nepalgunj from Kathmandu. But prior to this, we will drop you at TIA domestic terminal.

It is nearly a flight of an hour.

Nepal is situated west of Kathmandu. It is one of the largest cities of the country that shares a border with India. You can stroll around the street of Nepalgunj and witness the typical culture of this lowland of Terai.

Wake up! Time to move.

Well, we will head to the airport to catch a flight to Jumla. The flight will be for half an hour. This small town of Jumla will capture your heart. The lush green vegetation of this hilly area will fascinate you.

On this day, we will also arrange a porter for you who will take care of your luggage throughout the trek. One of the main reasons to camp Jumla today is that you will be acclimatizing with increasing altitude. This is highly recommended because it will minimize the chances of being arrested by altitude sickness.

Here we go!

From today begins our trek regarding which you read a lot. Now you will be experiencing it.

At first, we follow descend trail to arrive at a bridge. Following a silent course will lead us to Garjankot. The vegetation is so calm and peaceful that will drive you silent. We will set camp at Gothi Chaur.

We head toward the bank of a tributary of Tila River. Crossing alpine forest and streams, we arrive at Munigaoun. Muni refers to saint and gaoun means village. Hence, it used to be a village of saints in the time of yore.

We arrive at the check-post where we will produce the necessary permit and head further ahead to get in Nephukhona.

The winding river and thick forest will mesmerize you. The uphill climb will bring us to Maure La. The peaks of Ghyuthumba and Matathumba ranges are the key attractions of today.

The first glimpse of Kagmara Lek will deliver a sense of happiness in you. We descend through Rimi. On the left of the rive is Kaigaoun. We proceed toward Hurikot. There is one beautiful monastery here in Hurikot.

We will be walking along the bank of the river. The villages that you will observe or pass through exhibit Tibetan culture. Following gradual uphill, we reach Jagdula Khola. The viewpoint of Kagmara is nearly half an hour from here. The further walk will bring us to Garpung Khola.

Despite being the rest day, our part does not stop. We will hike to Kagmara Phedi. We cross a bridge and follow the stream for a couple of hours. This will lead us to Kagmara Phedi. The view of Kanjirowa Himal (6,612m-21692ft) from here is astounding.

Get ready for today’s challenge! What challenge? Well, we will be crossing Kagmara La Pass which is at an altitude of 5,115m-16781ft. It is an uphill climb of a couple of hours. The fluttering colorful prayer flags and mountains on the backdrop will mesmerize you. Lasa is roughly an hour away from the pass.

We will be walking on a downhill course today. You will be crossing several streams today. The view of Kanjirowa Himal is fascinating. The site is also popular for blue sheep and wild foxes. It (blue sheep) is one of the endangered species of the world and is normally found at over an altitude of 3,000m-9842ft. A further downhill walk from Kyagru will lead us to Pungmo.

It is a rest day today and is essential to adjust your body with the gaining altitude. This will minimize or avoid the chances of being arrested by altitude sickness.

Despite being the rest day, we will explore the local area as it is rich in the ancient culture of Bon. The Gompas where we will visit still practice Bon culture and currently existing Buddhism. The walk to Gompas is quite pleasing and beautiful. We retrace the path to Pungmo.

Ahh! It is another interesting walk of your life as a hike today will lead you to Phoksundo Lake, the deepest lake in the country. You find several kinds of literature about this lake but none of them can actually portray the real beauty of this lake. To experience the turquoise beauty of this lake, you have to be here and feel it.

We arrive at the army camp after following descend the trail. The glimpse of the lake from Ringmo is simply majestic. Yes, it is simply MAJESTIC!

Today’s hike will unfold the beauty of the hidden valley of Tarap. The walk is not that challenging to get to Ya-Kharka. Kharaka refers to the pasture field of yak.

Today’s hike will lead you to another pass of the trek, Baga La. It is roughy at an altitude of 5,182m-17001ft. walking on the roof of the world, Tibetan plateau, we get at the pass. The view of Phoksundo lake, Kanjirowa Himal, and Norbung Kang (6,085m-19963ft) from the top of the pass is awesome. We follow a downhill course to get in Danigar.

You will be crossing Numa La Pass (5,350m-17552ft) to get to Dho Tarap. The view of Dhaulagiri I (8,167m-26794ft) and Kanjirowa Himal are key attractions witnessed from the top of the pass. Following the downhill trail, we enter Tarap Valley.

Before leaving Dho Tarap, we pay a brief visit to Bon Gompa—Dhoro Gompa and Shipchaur Gompa. Following tarap Khola descent, we reach Ghyamar via Langa Camp.

Relatively, it is a long walk of nearly seven or eight hours as this depends upon the pace of your walk which goes through Gorge. Walking on the bank of Tarap Khola, we get in Chhyugar.

A short hike from Chhyugar will lead us to Barbung Khola. We reach a confluence called Laisicap where meet Tarap Khola and Barbung Khola. Following the Bheri River course, we move ahead to arrive in Tarakot.

Walking along the bank of Bheri River and following descend trail, we get to Suligad. It is a confluence of the Phoksundo River and Bheri River. A further downhill trail to get us in Jhupal.

Travel Insurance
For everyone who will plan to Trek in Nepal, it is highly recommended that you get travel insurance that covers added expenses that might result due to various health issues, injuries or accidents (together with the ambulance, helicopter rescue, and other treatment costs). Your insurance policy should cover up the entire activities that you are planning to accomplish throughout your stay in Nepal.

In addition to this, the policy should also cover death, misplaced luggage, theft and liability, cancellations, medical treatment (counting hospital charges, cost of the medicine, doctor’s fees) as well as repatriation cost. Also, this trekking trail in Nepal takes you of 5,000 m above the altitude, therefore, you also need to ensure that your insurance policy covers treks that go over 5,000 m.

Meals And Accommodation
While you’re in Kathmandu, your accommodation is at a standard hotel (Arrival time and departure time). Your accommodation is at best local Lodge and Guest Houses where available. The Mountain local Lodges are clean and have comfortable beds. The Lodges are fairly basic and the room is spare with twin beds. Blankets are generally provided. There is a large dining hall and warmed fitted with a chimney duct, in which a log fire is lighted.

Eating is a big part of the Holiday. Traveling with Northern Trekking Team, you experience the vast array of wonderful Nepalese food, Italian, Thai, Chinese, and several local foods. While on the trek it will be on full board all 3 times meals (Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner, with Tea/Coffee) included in the package. Your guide will suggest delicious, hygienic special food during your trips. Generally, choose menu items are Nepalese meals (Dal Bhat), Tibetan fried bread, various types of soups, Momo’s (steamed dumplings), boiled and fried potatoes, kinds of pasta and even pizza. So, overall you have a different choice of foods on the trek. During this trek, you will usually have breakfast and dinner at the same guest house.

 

Booking And Payment
You should book the service at least 15 days before the trek departure date. After you confirm your trip with us, you should be transferring us a photocopy of your passport or your personal information. The personal information you have to provide us your first name, middle name, and last name, passport number, date of birth, nationality, and gender. Importantly, you need to pay 20% of the total price in advance for the domestic flight tickets and hotel booking and permit process. You can pay the remaining balance before you start the trek.

 

Personal Expenses
How much money or cash you should be bringing with you depends on how you do the trip and the number of days you want to spend here in Nepal. Much also depends on your spending habits. Generally, you must have to take10 to 15 USD for spending your expenses, such as laundry, telephone calls, snacks, camera, and mobile battery charging. How much you will be spending during your trekking depends on the standard of the package you have purchased.

On every trip, will be one Trek leader and an assistance leader on each additional 7 peoples in the group on treks, this arrangement would ensure that even if any of our guide/ assistance guides gets sick or clients may get sick and need to be evacuated or staying behind from the walks, it wills still works smoothly and there would non-impact with our original trek plan. 

Every 7 trekkers will have one Sherpa helper for carrying your trekking bags.

Our porter is fully strong, helpful and friendly. Their salary, food, drinks, accommodation, transportation, and Insurance on each trip with us. As you know that we are very trustworthy and polite, while on trek thus we make sure that our porter is fully prepared for the trip. We are closely working with the International Porter Progress Association for the welfare and benefit for trekking porters. 

The maximum load carried by our porter minimum 20 to 25 KG maximum so be sure that your trekking bag is not more than the above figure.

 

High Altitude
This is a high altitude journey and elevation starts from low 2,370 m to 5,318 m high, where symptoms of AMS (Acute Mountain Sickness) might occur due to dry air, cold wind, and less oxygen. Three best seasons for the trek to Jumla Dolpa region. Generally, the main trails are having with trekkers in the two regions, we suggest you join in at the right time of the year as far as possible.

Things To Know Before Trekking
The main flow of foreign visitors in Nepal is for trekking from moderate to adventurous or challenging treks, the most important is choosing the right trip as per your duration of holiday and fitness, for Jumla Dolpa Himalayan trekking adventure one needs to be in sound health and physically fit.

On booking with our preparation of fitness required like walking-jogging-Jumba-aerobic at least twenty days before your departure from the home country.

Please send us your dietary list and medical history report so that we can arrange well in advance respectively. Book the ticket from home for Kathmandu,Nepal to reach at least two days ahead and earlier from trek departure with much space in Kathmandu after the trek, this allows you with more time in Nepal to enjoy the culture and heritage sites of Nepal and also in case of flight delay (Kathmandu-Nepalgunj-Jumla and Nepalgunj to Kathmandu) which can happen sometimes due to bad and unfavorable weather.

What do you need to obtain A Nepal visa?
If you are thinking of taking a visa at the airport or immigration entry point, the following are your requirements:

A valid passport (The passport should have a validity of at least six months)
You should fill the application form for visa available at airport or immigration entry points.
Two passport size photos
Visa fees which should be paid in cash.

USD 25 or equivalent convertible currency for 15 days.
USD 40 or equivalent convertible currency for 30 days.
USD 100 or equivalent convertible currency for 90 days.
For the tourist of SAARC nationals, free visa up to 30 days.
Visa is not required for Indian nationals. However, if they enter Nepal via air, they will have to show a valid identification certificate (passport/ citizenship certificate). The children under the age of 10 do not need to show an identification certificate.
 

Visa Extension
If you want to extend the visa for 15 days or less, visa extension charge is USD 30 or equivalent convertible currency
If you want to extend the visa for more than 15 days, USD 2 will be charged per day after 15 days. However, the visa can be extended maximum up to 150 days in a visa year (Visa year refers to the year starting January to December.)
 

Transit Visa
When a foreigner has to get down at Nepalese airport as a result of his/her transit point or due to any force landing for whatever the reason, the foreigner can obtain a transit visa for a day after paying USD 5 or any other currency equivalent.

 

Other General Information
Entering into Nepal or staying in Nepal without a valid visa is illegal.
A tourist visa can be obtained either through the Nepalese embassy or consulate or other mission offices in your nation or at the immigration entry points in Nepal listed above.
Visa once issued cannot be amended and the visa fees are non-refundable.
You should pay the Nepal visa fees in cash. Credit card or cheque is not acceptable.
Visa charges are not applicable for children under 10 years of age, however, they must obtain a valid visa.
If you are obtaining a new passport or travel document, you are advised to contact the Immigration Department for the document transfer.
Always carry your passport and trekking permit while on trekking.
Some of the areas are restricted for filming. Therefore, be careful not to do the activities that are strictly prohibited.
The culture, tradition, and sentiments of Nepalese people should be respected. Do not perform any activities that would hurt their sentiments.
