About Tibet

Tibet is a small region of modern-day China, which covers most parts of the Tibetan plateau and is home of native Tibetan people. However, it is the highest region on Earth situated at the elevation of 5,000 meters on average. The people living in this region are mostly Tibetan Buddhists and the highest settlements here are of Tibetan people and some other ethnicity like Monpa, Tamang, Qiang, Sherpa, and Lhoba peoples. The Tibetan language is the native language of this autonomous region.

Tibet (also known as western China) has some of the highest mountains in the world including Mt. Everest (the highest peak in the world), bordered with Nepal. The region also originates several rivers in the Tibetan plateaus including Yangtze, Yellow River, Indus River, Mekong, Ganges, Salween, and the Yarlung Tsangpo River. However, Yarlung Tsangpo Grand Canyon and the Yarlung Tsangpo River are considered as the deepest and longest canyons in the earth.
